The Intelligent Text Management System (ITMS), a text analysis andretrieval system, automates the input, classification, storage, andretrieval of unstructured documents. ITMS integrates three retrievalstrategies: Formatted Field, Keyword, and "Intelligent" retrieval.The "intelligence" of ITMS is provided by a knowledge base, referred toas a Judgement Base Module(TM) (JBM(TM)). The JBM is developed through ahuman judgement simulation technique, the results of which areincorporated into the machine decision-making process. Subject fieldsand rated vocabulary terms constitute a JBM. After the initial JBMconstruction, no human input is required, except to compose requests andto perform minimal maintenance.The basic unit for retrieval is a document which consists of formattedfields and text. The number of formatted fields and the amount of textthat can be managed is limited only by the supporting hardware.
